Koinonia Christian Care Home

The hallmark of both programs is the use of evidence-based treatment models carried out by exceptionally engaged and committed staff. We feel what really makes us different are our relationships. When people come to Koinonia, they don’t tend to leave. Even staff will tell us, about two weeks after they’re hired, they say, “I’ve never worked in a place like this.

Koinonia in Northern Nevada offers a Day Treatment Program serving both preadolescent and adolescent youth.Preadolescent Day Treatment, established in 2001, serves younger children, ages 6 to 13. This Day Treatment, which includes the milieu of a school, serves children with a diagnosis of PTSD, many of whom have been sexualized or in other ways have experienced significant and complex trauma. Adolescent Day Treatment, established in 2003, serves older youth, ages 12 to 18. These youth have tended to struggle in many other environments and yet they are now able to find success in the highly structured environment of Adolescent Day Treatment.

What is the current need for foster parents in Northern Nevada? What happens when there aren’t any more places for the kids?

She says, “God’s timing never ceases to amaze me, as this was when the vacancy for an Administrator here at Koinonia arose.” Anne joined the family in August 2012. Kim has a background in business management and catering and has relocated to Worthing from the Wirral near Liverpool. Kim has family in Brighton and is looking forward to being closer to them. Kim enjoys playing badminton, reading and discipleship courses.

Before becoming a mother, Leanne was a social worker and during those years worked with people of various ages and backgrounds. Born and raised in Indiana, God transplanted me, along with my husband Matthew, in Wichita, KS during the fall of 1997. It is here we have bloomed where God has planted us and we have spent the majority of our married life. It is here that God blessed us with a set of twins through adoption in 2005. Walter and Dorothy are now 17 years old and going to be seniors this fall.

Compass Pathfinder Program

Not everyone works out of the home, and in fact a lot of our parents don’t work, but there might be a second partner in the home. All of our kids in foster care receive Medicaid, and frankly, it’s amazing insurance. Foster Care is taking a child, or maybe even more than one child, into your home.

An Activities Co-ordinator works two full days a week and leads activities such as craft, games, singing, music, and quizzes. Films are organised, and occasionally outside visitors join the activities. The Co-ordinator also connects with residents on a one-to-one, sometimes taking them out to the park (when weather allows!). We proudly offer safe and reliable non-medical transportation for people who have developmental disabilities and other complex medical conditions.

Shared Living

We want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible volunteers and donors who showered our foster youth and families with love. The Seipp Family “McKinley and Carter's social worker called our agency, Koinonia, because she had another Koinonia family and loved them. We met McKinley and Carter while they were in respite (short-term) care and... Koinonia Homes for Teens, a division of Koinonia Family Services, began in 1985 as an extension of Koinonia’s vision to provide for the needs of abused and delinquent children in a structured and nurturing setting. We currently have two short-term residential therapeutic homes in Placer County.

Since 1982, we’ve had the privilege of serving thousands of foster youth and resource parents. What these numbers fail to capture is the wide range of emotions that come with each individual... It’s usually a combination of awareness, compassion, and an extra push somewhere along the way. For Steve and Jeannie Fuller, it seemed as if foster care and adoption was what they were always meant to do. In a world that feels uncertain, parents have the unique quality of being a permanent figure in a child’s life. They are the ones we count on to show up through every high and every low.

Active senior living communities

The Lord has increased this family of 5 to 26 and they treasure their time together. I have a degree in Special Education and taught in public schools for 10 years then went on to tutor special needs students who were homeschooled. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Greg, for 34 years and going strong.

There is a Registered Manager who leads the Home, supported by a Clinical Facilitator and an Administrator. The Pilgrims' Friend Society Support Team, including Finance, HR, and Communications, work with the team at the home. There are plenty of hotels and guest houses locally, including a Premier Inn on the seafront which is a 10 minute walk from the home. There is a communal garden which the residents are welcome to enjoy when weather permits. The main lounge and the front lounge are the areas most used by residents.

Activities

Koinonia is here to support foster parents, the children who live with them, and the teams who serve the children. We work hard to be the best support we can be so foster families can make their best difference in the lives of these most vulnerable children. Nancy has served in several areas with KSC including transportation, making and delivering monthly Blessing Gifts, visiting widows, and being a prayer support for the ministry. She faithfully served in our weekly Bible study at a local assisted living community until COVID changed all that. The people who attended loved the Lord, HIs Word, and singing hymns!
